Part of the joy of a glamping break is being able to do exactly what you want, when you want. And that includes eating! From s’mores around the campfire to a delicious breakfast enjoyed in the fresh air, you can help yourself to whatever it is you fancy. Even better - all of our sites are completely self-catered, so you can set the schedule and menu throughout your break.
For glampers staying in our Forest of Bowland site in Lancashire, we’ve put together a list of shops and stores where you can stock up on food for your holiday. From convenient supermarkets to quaint farm shops, and even the odd cosy pub, you certainly won’t be short of options!
Forest of Bowland supermarkets
To ensure they have enough milk, bread and other essentials to last during their holiday, many people choose to load up with a supermarket shop before they arrive at their tent. Luckily, we have a few stores to choose from, mostly around a 20-minute drive from our site. These include:
- Sainsburys, Garstang, Preston PR3 1EL - 20 minutes drive
- Sainsburys, Longridge, Preston PR3 2NA - 19 minutes’ drive
- ALDI, Garstang, Preston PR3 1HB - 21 minutes’ drive
- ALDI, Longridge, Preston PR3 2AD - 21 minutes’ drive
Don’t forget - many supermarkets offer a ‘click and collect’ service, where you can order your shopping online and then simply pull up and load it into your boot. This is a great option for picking up food for your break, as it saves you trailing around the shop when you just want to get to your destination! It also means you won’t have to keep things like meat and cold milk in your boot for too long.
Forest of Bowland farm stores
If you want to enjoy a few special treats, or even try some of the delicious local produce on offer in the surrounding area, then the Forest of Bowland has a selection of farm shops and village stores to choose from.
Chipping Farm Shop is 14 minutes’ away by car, and stocks products from farms and businesses across the area. Why not pop in and sample the award winning ‘Uncle Bob’s’ ice cream, or pick up some delicious local cheeses, traditional ales and home reared beef for your evening barbecue? They also have a lovely seating area where you can enjoy a freshly made coffee, tea or sandwich.
Bradshaws Farm Shop is another local favourite, just over 20 minutes’ away. The shop has been running for over 35 years, having originally been a dairy farm which also reared hens. The family started off by selling fresh eggs, and have since gone from strength to strength. Now you can buy all manner of fresh produce here, including local meat, fresh bread, home grown fruit and veg and more. There’s also a garden centre, where green-fingered visitors can stock up on supplies and plants.
Last but not least, Little Town Farm Shop is a 17 minute drive from our Bleasdale site. This family-run business stocks a wide range of local and home-grown produce, including beef, pork and lamb, dairy products from their own dairy and even some fantastic traditional pies! To top off your visit, you can also sit in the tea room for a hot drink and a home-cooked meal.
On-site honesty shops
For those last-minute essentials, we have honesty shops on all our sites. These vary per farm, but should be able to provide a small selection including matches, fire lighters, loo roll and tins of baked beans. However, they are unlikely to offer any perishable items such as bread, milk or butter.
Eating out in the Forest of Bowland
Of course, eating in isn’t the only option! Although we love seeing people cooking over the firepit or whipping up a delicious meal in their tents, the Forest of Bowland has a huge selection of delicious pubs, cafes and eateries to enjoy. From fine dining on a special occasion, to a cosy local pub to nip into after a long walk, there’s something for every palette. Many also allow dogs, so your furry friend can join you as you dive into a meal of delicious local ingredients. To help you choose yours, don’t miss our earlier blog on pubs and restaurants in the Forest of Bowland.
