Glamping during October half term: Magical moments for autumn

October half term is a chance to make some memories with your nearest and dearest. It’s also a great time to relax and take a breath before our Lantern & Larks sites close for winter and the Christmas chaos begins.

October is one of our favourite times to enjoy a glamping break. Our beautiful sites become a riot of colour and texture; reds, gold and yellows cover the trees, while fallen leaves crunch pleasingly underfoot. In fact, there’s so much to enjoy during a half term break, you may find yourself spoilt for choice! Just take a look at these ten unforgettable moments, all of which are bound to keep you warm long after you return home…

1) Roasting marshmallows under a clear autumn sky - October's clear, crisp evenings are ideal for roasting marshmallows over the firepit. Guests young and old will love snacking on these gooey treats. Whether it’s straight from the stick or sandwiched between biscuits, this is one of those childhood memories which they'll remember for years to come.

2) Playing a board game beside a flickering stove – We are talking about the UK, after all! But if the weather turns, there are few things cosier than playing a game of monopoly in front of the flickering stove, while raindrops patter against the roof of your luxury tent.

3) Spotting a shooting star above your tent – With the darker evenings and clear skies, October is a fantastic time for stargazing. Grab a couple of blankets from your tent, whip up a few mugs of hot chocolate, and see what you can see! Our sites are all free of electric lights, meaning you’re always guaranteed a spectacular view of the night sky. Autumn is also the time to spot some of the UK’s nightime displays, including the Orionid meteor shower in the third week of October.

4) Watching the kids enjoy the great outdoors – Here at Lantern & Larks, there’s nothing we love more than sharing the beauty of nature with our guests. It’s a chance to leave the screens at home and watch the kids get out in the fresh air. Our sites are all perfectly safe with plenty of space, so you can sit back and enjoy the sight of your little glampers running, playing and exploring in the great outdoors. We also welcome dogs at all our sites, so they can appreciate the fresh air too!

5) Take part in a local event – There’s so much to do around all our sites at this time of year, from fun family festivals to Halloween delights! Why not pay a visit to The Autumn Show in Ipswich, Suffolk (19th – 20st Oct 2019) or enjoy the activities on offer at Ford Abbey’s Halloween half term in Somerset (26th Oct – 3rd Nov)?

6) Cooking a feast over an open fire – After a busy day exploring in the crisp autumn air, there’s nothing like a big plate of toasty campfire food. Imagine a warming serving of chilli, a delicious cheeseburger or even some campfire nachos! There’s nothing like a pot of delicious food bubbling away over an open fire, sending delicious smells into the air as you dig in surrounded by friends and family.

7) Filling your pockets with conkers and blackberries – Autumn is a time when the countryside comes alive with all kinds of bounty. Shiny conkers, juicy blackberries, sweet chestnuts and much more can all be found just a short walk from your tent! Your little ones will love seeking out all kinds of treasures during your explorations… why not see who can find the most?

8) Sharing a glass of bubbly with someone special – Because half term breaks aren’t just for the kids! Once they’re all tucked up in their cosy bunkbeds, it’s time to pour yourself a glass and relax on the deck with someone special. Watch the sun set across the great British countryside and feel your troubles disappear as you enjoy some precious time together.

9) Discover an autumnal wonderland during a family walk – October half term is a wonderful time to take a family walk. Our sites are all in easy reach of plenty of lovely routes, from gentle countryside strolls to more challenging coastal hikes. With the crisp autumn air, breathtaking palette of colours and golden sunshine, this it the time to admire our local countryside at its most beautiful. The family dog is bound to love it as well!

10) Sampling some delicious local food – Sometimes it’s nice to take a break from cooking. If you want to try something different during your stay, why not pop over to a local pub or restaurant and try some of the delicious local food and produce available around all our sites? The grown ups could even sample some of the local ales! There are few things cosier than tucking into a delicious meal in a traditional pub, while the fire crackles in the corner.
